What Happened to Sally Struthers 53 Years after ‘All in the Family’s’ Release – Inside Her Life

Sally Struthers, famous for playing Gloria Stivic on All in the Family, has transformed from a young, insecure actress into a versatile performer over her long career. Born in Portland, Oregon, on July 28, 1947, she began acting after high school and landed the role that would define her early career. Despite feeling little in common with her character, Struthers’ portrayal of Gloria became iconic.

The cast, especially Carroll O’Connor, played a significant role in her personal life, with O’Connor introducing her to psychiatrist William Rader, whom she married in 1977. They had a daughter, Samantha, but divorced in 1983.

Initially uninterested in motherhood, Struthers changed her perspective after falling in love with Rader. She went on to return to All in the Family in the short-lived spin-off Gloria. After the show’s cancellation, Struthers continued acting in sitcoms like Nine to Five and made guest appearances on Charles in Charge and Murder, She Wrote. She also found success in voice acting, lending her voice to Yo Yogi!, Tiny Toon Adventures, TaleSpin, and Dinosaurs, where she voiced Charlene Sinclair.

In 1992, Struthers showcased her range in a serious role in In the Best Interest of the Children. Now in her 70s, Struthers remains a beloved figure, especially in Australia, where her humor and charm continue to captivate audiences.
