Speaker Johnson Calls for Censure of Rep. Al Green
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) condemned Rep. Al Green (D-TX) for his disruptive protest during President Trump’s congressional address, calling it “shameful” and urging censure.
Green was removed from the chamber after shouting in defiance of Trump’s remarks. Republicans responded with chants of “USA,” and Johnson ordered the sergeant at arms to restore order. When Green refused to comply, he was escorted out as Republicans sang “Hey, hey, hey, goodbye.”
Johnson stated House Republicans would introduce a censure resolution, vowing to bring it to the floor. The House Freedom Caucus had warned Democrats against disrupting the speech.
