I hadn’t ordered Chinese food, but the delivery driver insisted it was for me. When I opened the bag, I found a note on the back of the receipt: Sometimes, life surprises us in good ways. Open your heart, and kindness will find its way back to you.
As a single mom, life was exhausting—balancing work, kids, and endless worries. My husband left two years ago, and since then, I’d barely had time to breathe. That night, my kids and I enjoyed an unexpected dinner, laughing together for the first time in months.
Then, strange things started happening. My lawn was mowed without explanation. Someone paid for my coffee at a drive-thru. A note appeared on my car offering free repairs. These small acts of kindness kept coming.
One afternoon at the park, I recognized the delivery driver. Gathering my courage, I asked him, “It was you, wasn’t it? The note, the lawn, the car repair?”
He smiled. “Not just me. After that delivery, I couldn’t stop thinking about you. You reminded me of my mom—raising me alone, working two jobs. So, I posted in a local community group, and people wanted to help.”
Tears welled up. “All these people… they don’t even know me.”
“They don’t need to,” he said. “Sometimes, people just want to help.”
Months later, I found myself paying for a stranger’s groceries after her card was declined. As I handed my card to the cashier, I remembered the note: Open your heart, and kindness will find its way back to you.
It already had.
