Greg and Natalie, who have been divorced for a while, share a three-year-old son, Oliver. Greg believes they are co-parenting well until he receives devastating news from Natalie.
After five years of marriage, Greg and Natalie split. Though they now live in different states, they make sure Oliver spends time with both of them. Natalie regularly video calls Greg so he can say goodnight to Oliver, a routine that comforts him. However, one day, Natalie calls him in tears, saying, “Our son’s gone.”
Greg is in shock. “What? How?” he asks, but Natalie only says, “He’s dead,” and tells him she’s already held a ceremony and buried Oliver. Greg is devastated, angry, and confused. Why didn’t Natalie tell him sooner? Why was he excluded from the funeral?
The next day, as Greg is preparing to fly to Natalie’s city, he receives a call from Mike, Natalie’s new husband. Mike reveals that Oliver is alive and with Natalie’s parents. Natalie had made up the story to get Greg out of her life, fearing that he would take Oliver away once he found out she was pregnant with another child.
Greg is furious but relieved that Oliver is safe. He travels to Natalie’s home, where she admits her actions and explains her fear. Greg assures her he never wanted sole custody of Oliver and would never take him away, but warns her not to lie again, or he will take legal action.
After a heartfelt conversation, Greg reassures Natalie that he supports their son’s future and insists on counseling for them to work through their issues. Grateful for Mike’s honesty, Greg returns home but is looking for jobs closer to Oliver.
This shocking lie changed everything for Greg, but it also revealed his commitment to co-parenting and supporting Oliver’s future.
