One morning, I found my car egged, parked in front of Brad’s house. He’d done it because he claimed my car blocked his decorations. His smug attitude made me furious, but I was too tired to argue.
Later, as I rocked Lily to sleep, I hatched a plan for revenge. I suggested to Brad that he upgrade his decorations with high-tech gadgets known to malfunction. He eagerly took the bait, and Halloween night, his display fell apart. The fog machine sputtered, the ghost projector malfunctioned, and his inflatable Frankenstein collapsed. The neighborhood kids loved it.
The next morning, Brad apologized, admitting he hadn’t understood how tough it was for me with the twins. I accepted his apology, savoring the moment. “Funny how things balance out,” I said as he left.
