Melania Trump shared her first official White House portrait on Instagram, sparking confusion among some followers. The photo, taken by Régine Mahaux the day after Donald Trump’s inauguration, was posted in the wake of several major executive orders from the new administration.
Some Instagram users, who thought they had unfollowed her, commented they were surprised to see the post, with remarks like “I didn’t follow her” and “Thanks for reminding me to unfollow.” A similar confusion arose earlier when people realized they were unknowingly following accounts for President Biden and Vice President JD Vance due to Instagram’s automatic transitions during administration changes.
Meta explained that users who followed the White House accounts previously would continue following them as the administration shifted.
