South Carolina couple found hugging each other after tragic death

Jerry Savage, 78, and Marcia Savage, 74, tragically lost their lives during Hurricane Helene, one of the deadliest storms since Katrina in 2005. The couple, from Beech Island, South Carolina, were found hugging each other in their home, crushed by a fallen tree.

Their daughter, Tammy Estep, revealed that Jerry was trying to protect Marcia when the tree fell. “The coroner had to pull them apart,” she shared. The couple, who celebrated over 50 years of marriage and were born on the same day, January 22, embodied a love that lasted a lifetime.

Their grandson, John Savage, witnessed the terrifying moments leading up to the disaster. After hearing a “big bang,” he attempted to reach them, only to find the door blocked. Sadly, their beloved dog, Angel, was also found deceased with them.

A fundraising campaign is underway to cover funeral costs, honoring the couple’s legacy as generous and loving individuals. They are survived by two children, four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
