FCC Chair to Brief GOP Lawmakers on Soros’ Radio Station Influence

Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr is set to update Republican lawmakers on the agency’s investigation into George Soros’ influence over local radio stations during a meeting on Wednesday.

According to Fox News, Carr will meet with members of the Republican Study Committee to discuss Soros’ ties to an investment firm that acquired over 200 Audacy radio stations last year. He is also expected to address broader strategies to counter left-wing media.

The deal has drawn scrutiny from senior Republicans, including House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) and Rep. Nick Langworthy (R-NY), who launched an investigation into the FCC’s handling of the transaction. Carr previously testified before Congress, arguing the FCC was bypassing normal review processes for foreign ownership.

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) also raised concerns, warning in an April 2024 letter that Soros’ group was seeking fast-track approval without proper oversight. Ahead of the November election, the Biden-era FCC expedited its decision, approving the deal, which could allow Soros to reach up to 165 million Americans.

Comer and Langworthy argue that Soros, a major Democrat donor, has a history of backing organizations advocating for speech restrictions on conservatives. They warned he is consolidating media influence and will become a major shareholder once the bankruptcy deal concludes.
