A mother wants her child’s wedding to be the happiest day of their life. But Catherine’s good intentions caused problems with her future daughter-in-law, Zoe. The issue started with an email Catherine sent. She explained her side of the story, and we gave her advice on what to do next.
This is Catherine’s letter:
Dear Friends,
I tried to be the helpful, wise future mother-in-law… and somehow became the wedding villain. All I did was give my son’s fiancée three simple rules:
- Stick to the budget – A wedding isn’t worth selling a kidney.
- Invite family first – Not your yoga instructor’s cousin. FAMILY.
- Keep it simple – You don’t need a fireworks display or live dolphins.
But now, she’s furious! Called me controlling, said I’m ruining her vision, and basically implied I’m the final boss in the “Mother-in-Law” video game. My son? Silent. Me? Confused.
Am I saving this wedding from disaster or slowly transforming into the dreaded wedding tyrant?
Sincerely,
The “Well-Meaning” Villain
