On Tuesday, 27-year-old Karoline Leavitt became the youngest White House press secretary in history, delivering her first formal remarks in the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room. A New Hampshire native, Leavitt highlighted the administration’s dedication to transparency and open communication.
Before this role, Leavitt was a spokesperson for the Trump 2024 presidential campaign and stood out in numerous media appearances. She succeeds Ronald Ziegler, who held the record as the youngest press secretary at age 29 during Nixon’s administration.
“As you’ve seen, President Trump is working hard to fulfill his promises,” Leavitt said, emphasizing openness to both traditional and alternative media, including independent journalists and influencers.
Leavitt is also the sixth working mother to serve as White House press secretary. She gave birth to her son Nicholas in July 2024 and returned to work just days later. Balancing motherhood and her demanding role, she admitted it’s emotionally and physically challenging.
Leavitt is married to Nicholas Riccio, a real estate investor and owner of Riccio Enterprises LLC. The couple got engaged in 2023 and keeps their private life largely out of the public eye.
Donald Trump praised Leavitt as “smart, tough, and highly effective,” expressing full confidence in her abilities to communicate the administration’s vision to the American people.
