This past Sunday was supposed to be like any other quiet, reverent day at church—until I noticed a woman near the front pew with bright pink hair. It completely threw me off. Church, to me, has always been a place of modesty and respect, not bold fashion statements.
Throughout the sermon, I struggled to focus, my mind fixated on the neon pink. I grew up in a time when church attire was simple and subdued. Was it wrong to feel that such a striking color was out of place?
After the service, I hesitated but finally approached her. “Excuse me,” I said politely, “I just wanted to share my thoughts—bright colors like that might not be appropriate for church.”
Her eyes widened before she responded, “Well, I don’t think it’s any of your business. I come to pray, not to be judged.”
I was stunned. I hadn’t meant to offend her—only to express what I believed was respect for the sacred space. Now, I find myself questioning my own views. Are traditional standards fading? Should church attire still reflect reverence, or is individuality more important?
I’d love to hear others’ thoughts. Am I wrong for feeling this way, or is there still a place for tradition in how we present ourselves in church?
