My Blood Froze When I Opened My Husband’s Drawer the Day after Moving in with Him

Fresh off my wedding high, I moved into my husband’s family home — a place that seemed straight out of a fairy tale. It boasted high ceilings, arches, fountains, and flowers everywhere. George had wanted me to move in and settle down before we left for our honeymoon in the South of France.

I spent my first day in the house exploring every nook and cranny, marveling at the grandeur and beauty of it all. The staff was polite, and everything seemed perfect — until Valerie, the maid, approached me with a nervous expression.

“Mrs. Freya, may I have a word with you in private?” she whispered.

Curiosity piqued, I followed her to a quiet corner of the garden. Valerie glanced around to ensure we were alone before speaking.

“I don’t mean to alarm you, but there’s something you should know about Mr. George,” she said, her voice trembling. “He has a… secret life.”

My heart skipped a beat. “What do you mean?”

Valerie hesitated, clearly afraid. “It’s better if you see it for yourself. Please, check the bottom drawer in his study.”

My blood ran cold, but I nodded, thanking her before heading back inside. George’s study was a grand room filled with books and antique furniture. My hands shook as I approached the large oak desk. I knelt down and pulled open the bottom drawer, half expecting to find nothing out of the ordinary.

But what I found was far from ordinary.

Inside the drawer was a stack of photographs, each one more shocking than the last. They depicted George with various women in intimate settings, clearly taken over the years. My heart pounded as I sifted through the evidence of his double life. Letters and mementos from the women were also tucked inside, detailing affairs that spanned the entirety of our relationship and beyond.

As I sat there, trying to process the betrayal, the door creaked open, and George walked in. His face went from surprise to horror when he saw what I had discovered.

“Freya, I can explain,” he stammered, rushing over to me.

I stood up, my legs feeling weak. “Explain? George, you’ve been living a lie! Our whole marriage is built on lies!”

Tears welled up in his eyes. “Freya, please, those are from the past. I ended all of it when I met you. You have to believe me.”

I shook my head, backing away from him. “How can I believe anything you say now?”

Valerie’s words echoed in my mind. She had known and had the courage to warn me, but it was up to me to decide what to do next. I needed time to think, to understand how to move forward from this betrayal.

“I need some time,” I said, my voice breaking. “I can’t stay here right now.”

I left the room, ignoring George’s pleas. I packed a bag and took refuge in a nearby hotel, my mind racing with thoughts of our future. Could I ever trust him again? Did I even want to try?

The fairy tale had quickly turned into a nightmare, and I had no idea how to wake up from it. The days that followed were filled with uncertainty and pain, but I knew one thing for sure — the truth had been revealed, and there was no going back.
