Woman dies in head-on crash moments after posting on Facebook

Some life lessons, like avoiding distracted driving, need constant reinforcement. Even a moment of inattention behind the wheel can have tragic consequences.

In 2014, 32-year-old Courtney Sanford shared a happy Facebook post while driving. Moments later, her car veered into oncoming traffic, collided with a recycling truck, and caught fire, killing her instantly. Authorities confirmed no drugs or alcohol were involved but emphasized the risks of distracted driving. “A life was over in seconds just to share a happy moment,” said Lt. Chris Weisner.

Despite awareness campaigns, distracted driving caused 3,142 deaths in 2020. Courtney’s story is a tragic reminder: no text or notification is worth risking your life. Stay focused and put your phone down when driving.
