Thousands of Los Angeles residents have been evacuated due to wildfires fueled by severe winds. Four fires, stretching from the Pacific Coast to Pasadena, have destroyed over 1,000 structures, burned 11,800 acres, and remain completely uncontained.
Strong winds have grounded firefighting aircraft, and off-duty firefighters have been called in to help. So far, there have been two fatalities. “Entire neighborhoods have been consumed, and it’s devastating,” said Sue Kohl, president of the Pacific Palisades Community Council.
The winds, reaching 50-100 mph, are making firefighting efforts nearly impossible. LA County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath called it “an immensely painful 24 hours,” with many residents questioning whether rebuilding is even possible.
