At nearly 60, Lauren Cohen gave birth to twins, Gregory and Giselle, in 2006. It was a joyous occasion for the mother of two from Paramus, New Jersey, but she couldn’t have predicted her eldest daughter’s reaction.
Lauren had met Frank Garcia at a dance class in 2002, two years after her divorce. Despite their 20-year age gap, they fell in love at first sight and married in July 2002. Frank was eager to start a family, but multiple IVF attempts were unsuccessful due to Lauren’s age. After several rejections from doctors, a clinic in Virginia approved them in 2004, and their first daughter, Raquel, was born that December.
Less than a year later, Lauren found out she was pregnant with twins, conceived through IVF with donor eggs. She gave birth to Gregory and Giselle in May 2006, just before her 60th birthday. Lauren, who was 36 at the time, became the oldest mother in the U.S. to give birth to twins, tying a record set by a British woman in 1993.
Determined to stay healthy, Lauren does Pilates and yoga and takes nearly 100 supplements weekly, aiming to live long enough to see her children graduate from college. Despite her dedication to health, being an older mother has its challenges, especially as her eldest daughter, Renee, often mistakes her for their grandmother. Still, Lauren and Frank are grateful for their three children, even if they occasionally miss out on time with their daughter and granddaughter.
