Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) called for Rep.
Al Green (D-TX) to be censured following his disruptive protest during President Trump’s address to Congress.
Green, a 20-year House veteran, stood up and shouted during Trump’s speech, insisting that the president had no mandate.
Security escorted him out as Republicans responded with chants of “USA.” Johnson criticized Green’s actions as “shameful” and “a spectacle,” adding that many House Republicans would introduce a censure resolution. He emphasized that such disruptions would not be tolerated on the House floor.
Even some Democrats, including Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE), criticized Green’s protest as counterproductive and beyond acceptable decorum. A censure vote is expected soon.
